8/31/2023 0 Comments Childhood nostalgia disneyNo girl should require romance for a fulfilled and joyous life. Speaking of Prince Charming, have you noticed that any good Disney story features him as the great savior of the heroine?ĭisney’s Website says Snow White’s “happy ending is just a kiss away.” It’s great to have a nice man around, but men do not determine one’s level of happiness. Girls are taught that they must exhibit a level of beauty that is unattainable to any normal person and be ready to respond to the beck and call of every man. While magazines, television and advertisements are part of the problem, I believe that many of these negative and formative messages are sent from the stories and movies that children experience when they are young. Parents constantly turn to the media as a reason for eating disorders and low self-esteem among young girls. Society, or at least Disney, would teach these girls that they must change even though they are perfect exactly as they are. Now, don’t get me wrong - I love a nice dress, and I think it would be great if people could actually perform musical numbers with forest animals, but some girls have nothing in common with the princesses and are still great people. Thus, the audience learns that, among other sexist ideals, attractive and model women must be effortlessly gorgeous, skinny and kind to all creatures, and they must enjoy stereotypically “girly” pastimes and colors. No real person embodies these traits, but that does not stop girls from yearning for them. Every princess is a flawless beauty, with long hair, ravishing features and the ability to hit insanely high soprano notes while harmonizing with a nearby blue jay. Think about all the subconscious messages movies like “Cinderella” have been sending to the girl. But think about later, after the movie has ended, and the little girl has gotten older. Putting a child in front of “Cinderella” for two hours may seem to be a harmless way for a parent to achieve peace and quiet. I, too, had my fill of the beloved Disney royalty, but as I got older, I began to question why our society is so obsessed with the young beauties that are the Disney Princess Empire. In fact, just their mention might have sent you on a nostalgia-filled trip down memory lane. But if you leave everyone, you will look down and see all the hurt. Many people have happy childhood memories of watching and/or worshipping the Disney princesses. I don't really know what happens after you die, but you will look down on your old life and see all the good in your life. If you go through with it, you will regret it. I want you to know that you will regret it. You might be haunted by the fact that no one does, but trust me, that's the fog of depression that comes over us talking to you. I mean no return to the person they once were. By broken, I don't mean like two halves of a heart. I just want you to know that without you, someone that loves you very much would be broken. To the people who feel like they're better off gone, After dealing with this in many different angles, I feel as though I can put into perspective the value of someone's life. I have experienced a range of people who have dealt with mental disease and suicide, and I can tell you that someone contemplating suicide is the scariest thing you can be faced with.
